ABOUT THE ARTIST
In 2003, Brooke Walker-Knoblich studied abroad in Paris, France with Wells College for 9 months. This experience profoundly influenced the course of her artistic life. Her first oil painting class included mulling paint and making gesso, learning the glazing techniques of the Renaissance Masters,, and painting a copy in the Louvre Museum. Almost a decade later, Brooke would return to Europe to nourish her realism roots and paint a live model at the Florence Academy of Art.
In 2001, Brooke Walker-Knoblich graduated valedictorian and received a scholarship to attend Revelle, the liberal arts college at UC San Diego. After earning a BA in 2005, Brooke developed her first serious body of work of photorealistic larger-than-life portraits and began exhibiting in juried shows across the USA. Her 30x24" painting "Self Portrait by Candlelight" (left) is from this period.
In 2008, Brooke moved to Sacramento, CA and created several bodies of work inspired by the region. Her Responding to Rivers, Streets of Midtown, and Musicians of Midtown series all received local recognition, including a center-fold review in SN&R. In 2011, Brooke Walker- Knoblich became dedicated to painting directly from life. For several years she pursued independent studies in a weekly alla prima painters' group with Pat Mahony, Marcy Friedman, & Boyd Gavin, classes w/ Suchitra Bohsle, Ruo Li, & Michael Siegle, and a mentorship with Early Boley. Painting from life opened Brooke's repertoir to include plein air landscapes and still life paintings.

CURRENTLY
LIVING COLOR
While in Paris, Brooke Walker-Knoblich studied live figure drawing and painting with Kathy Burke. Painting directly from life, infused Brooke's art with more confidence and expression. She began exploring more wild uses of color in the portraits she painted of her self and friends and huanted the halls of the Musee d'Orsay, looking at the Impressionists.
