Autumn is my favorite time of year. As the trees break into riotous color, every leaf becomes its own expression of the season's change. Each painting is inspired by a real leaf discovered on a walk in Portland. The leaves always look like nature's jewels to me, so I painted them with rich oils to glisten in the light. Studying their botanical structures and celebrating each leaf's inherent uniqueness becomes a sort of meditation: I sense a casualness and preciousness, simultaneously.
